A daily yoga practice and getting out into the ocean as much as I can! My journey through yoga has brought me to place that I never knew existed and has given me more than I could ever imagine. Throughout my teenage years I struggled with depression and eating disorders. My self-confidence was extremely low, but I was pretty good at covering up the suffering. I felt like I was wearing a mask almost every day of my life. I went to therapy, I talked to a lot of people, and I even spent some time in an all-women’s inpatient treatment center. It all helped, some, but the depression, the feeling of self-loathing was something I thought I was always just going to have to deal with.

It wasn’t until I was 22 that I really got into yoga, after I tore my MCL on my 21st birthday thanks to a dangerous combination of alcohol and high heels. At first my yoga practice was purely physical: strength, flexibility, rehabbing my knee… but after a while I noticed that yoga was giving me more: inner strength, inner resilience, flexibility, unmessability, rehabbing my broken self-love and showing me the light at the end of a dark tunnel. It gave me a new spark for life. It’s given me a whole new appreciation for myself and for my body. I make time for MY practice every single day.

Surfing, on the other hand, has been a part of my life since I was a little girl and it was probably one of the few things that kept me afloat during those dark times. Before I knew what zen, meditation, and even “being present” really was, I was experiencing it out in the water. When I get in the water - whether to float, swim, surf or paddle - it feels as if all my worries wash away. It’s just me and the ocean. Being near the beach has played a HUGE role in many of my “life decisions” because it brings me unwavering happiness, peace and joy.


The practice of yoga and surfing has brought me to a really good place in my life right now. And while not everyday is sunshine and rainbows I can TRULY say that I love where I’m at, I love what I’m doing, and I love who I’m surrounded by. What works for me may not work for another, but I believe we all have the capacity to venture out on our own, unique pathway to happiness. All it takes it following your heart, trusting the process, and allowing yourself to release any old, out-dated ways of being in order to open up to the blessings that are available to you right now.

3. KARMA....EXPERIENCED IT?

For sure! When we raise our vibration we attract like vibrations. When we get stuck in cycles of limiting beliefs and lack compassion for ourselves and others we tend to attract that same kind of negativity back into our life. We manifest it. In my experience, my “story” was that I thought I wasn’t worth it. That I wasn’t worthy of authentic happiness and success and love. My inner dialogue was pretty pessimistic and I’d often sacrifice my integrity to make those around me happy, which in turn led to even more resentment and frustration and negativity. To break the cycle I had to give up my “story” and learn to love myself, my WHOLE self: thinking positive thoughts, taking care of my body, practicing kindness and compassion towards myself and others. I believe that through self-love we raise our vibration.  It creates an authentic connection to ourselves which inspires authentic connections with others and the world in which we live. And in this way we are all lifted.  

 

4. MOST VALUABLE LESSON YOU'VE LEARNED IN LIFE?

I know I have many more valuable lessons to learn, but so far, I think the most valuable lesson I’ve learned, and am still learning, is to not be so quick to judge - myself and others. And through teaching I’ve come to realize that everyone has a story to tell, everyone has had to deal with some type of adversity, and everyone is handling their given situation the best way that they can. When I let go of my opinion, compassion becomes more accessible.

 

5. ADVICE TO ANOTHER?

Believe in yourself. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Step out of your own way. Don’t just sit around and wait, create the life you want to live. Work hard, but don’t stress all the work. Leave a little up to faith. And most importantly, make some time for the things that make you the happiest.

7. YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?

My life’s purpose is to empower others. To share my experience through the healing power of yoga and mindfulness in hopes of encouraging others to release past wounds and to show up for life full of positivity and love. It’s my goal to inspire others - through movement, writing, and creating - to connect with their inner strength and to allow their authentic light to radiate out into the world.

 

8. YOUR ATTRACTION TO THIS PARTICULAR SOL STONE?

The color reminds me of my happy place, the ocean. Looking at the stone summons a sense of serenity within me and reminds me to, just like the ocean, go with the flow. And when I read that legends say it came from a mermaid’s jewelry chest? Well, I knew it was meant to be. Plus aquamarine is known to activate the throat chakra, which when in balance allows us to connect with and speak our truth, serving myself a wonderful reminder that my words (spoken and thought) do hold power.

9. YOUR EXPERIENCE SOL STONED?

I started getting into crystals a few years ago when a good friend of mine gifted me with a beautiful Amethyst piece. She explained to me a little bit about crystals, what they can be used for, how to clean them, incorporate them into my own practice, etc. Shortly after that, another good friend and co-worker gifted me with some crystals and stones she had collected on a recent trip to the mountains. I thought the universe had to be telling me something. Since then I’ve been using crystals frequently: placing them on my mat during a practice; holding onto them during my meditation; placing them in spots around my apartment; carrying them with me when I travel; using them to help clear out unwanted, negative energy; and passing them on along to friends when they need some good vibes directed their way. They bring me peace. And I’m so grateful for Instagram for creating this connection. I found Sol Stoned through my friend’s shop, Ocean State of Mind, when she posted a picture of Lily’s beautiful creations. I was immediately drawn to them and I deeply appreciate the love and good energy put into every piece. It’s inspiring and I am incredibly honored to be featured as a Karma Kutie.

 I've been wearing my aquamarine Sol Stoned necklace since I picked it up from the post office. Such good energy. I wore it to a yoga class I attended today and placed it on my mat as I practiced with the intention of allowing my true self to pour out, no masks, no stories, no walls, just authenticity... And the teacher, at the end of class, ended up sharing such a powerful and personal story with us all that it nearly brought the room to tears. Her sharing was so inspirational and in alignment with my intention that I couldn't help but feel that connection even more so with the stone.
